Wax Mold Creation

The foundation of every precision casting starts with a high-quality wax mold. Using automatic wax injectors for larger production runs, we create uniform and highly accurate wax patterns. These patterns serve as the blueprint for your final parts, ensuring that every detail is replicated with precision.

Tree Setup

Once the wax molds are ready, they are assembled onto a “tree” structure that features a metal base with “branches.” Our expert technicians meticulously attach each pattern to the tree via hand-melting to ensure even metal flow and prevent defects during casting. This step allows us to cast multiple parts simultaneously, maximizing efficiency and maintaining consistency throughout the batch.

Automated Ceramic Coating

The assembled tree is then coated in ceramic using our fully automated system. This process involves multiple layers of dipping and drying, creating a robust ceramic shell that can withstand the intense heat of molten metal. Automation ensures a consistent coating, which is vital for achieving accurate dimensions and a smooth surface finish on the final part.

Pouring the Parts

Once the ceramic shell has been built and cured, it’s time for the metal pour. Our skilled technicians melt the metal to the temperature required for optimal flow and pour it into the ceramic molds with precision. This careful control during the pour helps prevent defects and ensures the castings meet the desired specifications.

Finishing

After the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is removed – a tedious process sometimes done by hand – revealing the raw cast parts. We then move to finishing, where any excess metal is trimmed, pieces that are built into the mold, also known as gates, are removed, and parts are machined to achieve the required tolerances. Our finishing process ensures each part meets your exact specifications, with a smooth, high-quality surface finish.

Quality Control

At Lamothermic, quality is paramount. Every part undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure it meets our high standards for accuracy, strength, and durability. Our comprehensive quality control process includes dimensional inspections, material testing, and surface evaluations ensuring parts are ready for your application.
